Scottish castle doubles for the magnificent gardens of the Palace of Versailles | United Kingdom | News

Fans from around the world flock to filming locations.

Head Gardener Edith Barnes said: “The team here put a lot of effort into ensuring the gardens look their best and we are delighted that fans of the show have been able to see them on screen in all their glory.

“We hope visitors will see the hard work for themselves and perhaps even be transported to another place and time through their beauty.”

Outlander centers on Claire Randall, a World War II combat nurse living in the 1940s with her husband Frank. On a second honeymoon in Inverness, Claire travels to a stone circle and is mysteriously transported back in time to the Scottish Highlands in 1743.

She meets a young Scottish warrior, Jamie Fraser, and falls in love with him, leaving her torn between her life in the 18th and 20th centuries.

Although the storyline shifts to France in the second series, Scotland still provides much of the stunning scenery.

Fans of the hit Sony Pictures TV series can follow in the footsteps of Jamie and Claire and visit locations filmed in areas such as Dumfries and Galloway, Fife and The Trossachs.

The new map is VisitScotland’s largest guide to Outlander locations, and also includes 18 locations from the first series.

Outlander: Season 2 was released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 31.
