New Delhi: The highest Chenab railway bridge in the world was inaugurated on Saturday. With this bridge, Srinagar will be connected to the rest of the country for the first time after independence. It was built by Afcons, the legendary infrastructure company from Mumbai. About Rs 28,000 crore has been spent on this project.

The construction of this bridge started in 2002. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was then Prime Minister. Its work was stopped in 2008 for safety and other reasons. Then in 2010 work resumed. Now it’s ready. The final piece of the Overarch deck of this world’s tallest single-arch railway bridge was launched today. It is also called gold seal. Thanks to this, Kashmir is accessible directly by train.

28,000 crore rupees was spent
This bridge is of strategic importance. The two international borders are not far from where this bridge is built. Thanks to this bridge, the armies will be able to move easily by train. The Chenab Railway Bridge will connect the 111 km inaccessible road from Katra in Jammu and Banihal in Kashmir. The bridge is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. About 28,000 rupees was spent on this project.

The Kashmir Valley is to be connected to the rest of India through the 272 km line of the “Udhampur-Katra-Qazigund-Baramulla” National Railway Project of the Indian Railway Network.

The bridge is 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower (324 meters) in Paris. Its height is about 5 times higher than that of the Qutub Minar. The length of this bridge is 1,315 meters. It has a main arch span of 467 meters. This is the longest arc span of any broad gauge line ever built.

No earthquake will shake or explode
Even an earthquake of this bridge cannot spoil anything. This railway bridge was designed with the ability to withstand 40 kilogram TNT (explosive) blasts and an earthquake of eight on the Richter scale. Even after the explosion, the train can pass over it at a speed of 30 km/h.
